In addition to our World, National, and Diocesan Mission Projects, each year we also select a Christian Social Relations Project. This project is more about the collection of good than money.
This year we selected The Diaper Bank of the Carolinas out of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Greenville.
The Diaper Bank began when Ernestine Whittenberg was working as a Parent Educator doing Developmental Screenings through Home Visits. She saw the need families had for diapers, and began taking diapers as part of the Developmental Screening Project. In 2006, she invited 10 friends over to talk about their ability to come together to serve a need in their community, and the group Village Keepers was born. In 2012, they changed their name to Diaper Bank of the Carolinas, and they have 11 members. They continue to distribute diapers through Community Partners and to families in need through personal requests.
